With the aim of promoting the development of the first major green hydrogen corridor in Europe, the company Natural Power has been selected to carry out environmental impact studies for BarMar, an essential part of the project. H2med . The main purpose of this initiative is to interconnect the hydrogen networks of the Iberian Peninsula with northwest Europe.
A cross-border European project
Natural Power acts on behalf of Tecnoambiente Tecnoambiente, the main contractor in charge of carrying out the environmental and social study for the project. BarMar will focus on analyzing the different potential routes of the marine pipeline that will facilitate the connection between Barcelona and Marseille through the Mediterranean Sea.

The execution of the project will take advantage of the company’s vast experience in conducting environmental studies for renewable energy developments.
A great hydrogen broker
With an estimated investment of 2.5 billion euros, it was launched in October 2022 during an event attended by the presidents of Spain, France and the prime minister of Portugal. These leaders reaffirmed their commitment to this initiative during the Euromed Summit held on December 9, 2022 in Alicante, supported by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission.
In addition, this project has the momentum of the four Transmission System Operators (TSOs) from various countries, including Enagás (Spain), GRTgaz and Teréga (France), REN (Portugal) and OGE (Germany), who joined the project in October 2023, thus strengthening its international scope and long-term viability.
On November 28, 2023, the European Commission recognized the importance of the project by including it in the list of Projects of Common Interest (PCI), a historic and significant event towards its successful implementation and contribution to the development of a low-carbon economy in the region.
