A sea route has been launched between the city of Tianjin in northeast China and several destinations on the east coast of South America, including Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. This line, operated by the Chinese shipping company Cosco , will have 12 ships with a capacity of up to 14,000 standard containers each . In addition, weekly departures will be scheduled from Tianjin, a crucial port located approximately 170 km from Beijing.
A maritime route that strengthens commercial ties
This new service is expected to reduce freight transportation times between Tianjin and Brazil from 54 to 40 days, significantly improving efficiency in cold chain container shipping. This is essential for the export of food and other perishable goods. Jiang Shixue, an expert at the Center for Latin American Studies at Shanghai University, has highlighted that this route represents a crucial advance in strengthening trade relations between China and South American countries, which have been affected by long delivery periods.

This area, larger than Uruguay and with a population of about 110 million, will export products such as soybeans, iron ore and coffee beans to China while receiving essential items, chemicals and vehicles from China.

The inauguration of this route is part of a series of initiatives to improve maritime connections between China and South America.
