On Wednesday, May 14, China successfully launched a group of 12 satellites aboard a Long March-2D carrier rocket, marking the beginning of the deployment of a satellite constellation under a space computing center scheme.

This development was led by Zhijiang Laboratory, and the constellation is expected to reach thousands of satellites, according to Wang Jian, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and director of the lab. Wang is also the founder of Alibaba Cloud, one of China’s leading cloud computing platforms.

Each satellite in this initial batch is equipped with an 8 billion parameter AI model with data processing capabilities at the L0 to L4 levels(where L0 refers to the raw data collected directly by the satellite). In addition, the constellation offers full inter-satellite connectivity.
