A European consortium of 22 partners has launched a powerful response. I therefore present to you the official launch of the BIOS MATER project, a Horizon Europe initiative that seeks to transform the sector with the development of bio-based materials, the application of the circular economy and the creation of safe and sustainable solutions by design.
Innovation in the BIOS MATER project
The construction sector is responsible for approximately 37% of global CO2 emissions. That is why BIOS MATER responds to an urgent need for change. By rethinking conventional materials, the project promises to deliver bio-based alternatives with superior performance in durability, safety and efficiency. This approach seeks to integrate circular economy strategies to minimize waste and encourage the adoption of new solutions in the marketplace. Likewise, the initiative relies on digital transparency and active stakeholder participation, ensuring practical and scalable progress.

These materials, made from thermoplastics and bio-based foams, will be tested under real-world conditions. The experience of the 22 partners involved, which includes research institutions and major companies such as AIMPLAS the Plastics Technology Center, ensures that the solutions are not only sustainable but also viable for the market. Their expertise in polymers and innovation is fundamental to the success of this initiative.
With its focus on high-performance alternatives, BIOS MATER aligns directly with the European Union’s goals for climate neutrality.
