BAR Technologies has confirmed a major order to install its WindWings® wind propulsion system. WindWings® wind propulsion system on two new LR2 dual-fuel wind propulsion system on two new LR2 dual-fuel tankers. This move positions the wind energy as a key component in the transition to more sustainable shipping.
About the new LR2 tankers
The vessels “Suzuka” and “Long Beach” (both 250 meters in length) will be equipped with two 37.5 meter WindWings® units. This equipment will enable an average daily reduction of 3 tons of fossil fuel, achieving an approximate annual savings of 2300 tons of CO₂ per vessel, which represents a direct impact on the emissions targets set by the IMO for 2030.
[post_relacionado]Moreover, the vessels are being designed by SDARI and built by Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry (XSI), with construction scheduled to start in November 2025 and delivery scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. In addition, they will sail under the Marshall Islands flag and will be classed by Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, ensuring high standards of safety and structural performance.
This deployment on LR2 tankers marks a paradigm shift, as these are critical to the global transportation of refined petroleum products and chemicals. With wind propulsion supporting its dual-fuel systems, it consolidates a model of operational efficiency and emissions reduction that can be scaled across the shipping industry.

The WindWings® technology technology has been optimized through collaboration with CM Energy Tech, which will enable these solutions to be mass-produced on a large scale to meet growing global demand.
