BAR Technologies received the Type Approval Design Certificate (TADC) from Bureau Veritas for its 37.5-meter WindWings® system, a validation that confirms its compliance with the industry’s most stringent structural, material and safety standards. This paves the way for its implementation in both newbuilding vessels and retrofit programs.
About WindWings® technology
WindWings® incorporates a patented three-element sail design that offers up to 2.5 times more lift than traditional systems. By not requiring continuous power to operate, the system saves an average of 1.5 tons of fuel and 4.7 tons of CO2 per day on international routes.

The planned installations represent a relevant starting point for the commercial expansion of the system and consolidate the industry’s interest in zero-emission technology alternatives.
A certification that adds confidence to the market
The approval by Bureau Veritas adds to DNV’s previous endorsement of previous endorsement by DNVpositioning WindWings® as a WindWings® as one of the few wind-assisted propulsion solutions endorsed by multiple classification societies. This reinforces its credibility with shipowners and operators looking for sustainable technologies.
