Created by Apptronik, a robotics company spun out of the University of Texas Human-Centered Robotics Laboratory in 2016, it is the result of years of humanoid development and design work by creative studio Argodesign. based in Austin.

Apollo is a humanoid robot specifically designed to operate in environments intended for use by humans. This robot is about the same height as an average person, with a height of approximately 5 feet 8 inches and a weight of around 160 pounds. Plus, it boasts a load capacity of up to 55 pounds , allowing you to lift items efficiently.
“Apollo’s physical design is critical to making people comfortable working with humanoid robots,” says a statement from Apptronik. “Apollo’s digital face and chest panels encourage easy communication and his friendly, human face sets a new standard for human-robot interactions, approaching a friendly face-to-face exchange with a favorite coworker.”
Users have the option to choose the configuration that best suits their needs for Apollo applications. They can choose to use it as a true humanoid that walks on two pedals, with a torso that moves on wheels, or mounted on a stationary device.
Apollo is the first machine designed to be mass-produced and has been optimized to ensure supply chain resiliency. This unique design, combined with Apptronik’s strategic location near the Texas-Mexico manufacturing corridor, are essential elements for producing affordable humanoid robots on a large scale.
Another outstanding feature of the Apollo is its interchangeable batteries , each lasting 4 hours. This allows the robots to continue working without interruption, as they only need a battery change instead of having to wait for each unit to charge, which would mean time when they could not complete their tasks.
Although Apptronik initially focuses on box and container handling solutions in the logistics and manufacturing industries, Apollo is a general purpose robot designed to operate in the real world.
According to the creators of Apollo, the development partners have plans to expand the robot’s capabilities well beyond the logistics and manufacturing sectors. It is expected to be used in the future in areas such as construction, oil and gas related work , electronics production, retail, home delivery, senior care, and a wide range of additional services.
