The international technology group ANDRITZ has been selected to design a 100 MW green hydrogen plant in Rostock, Germany. This order comes from REPCO (Rostock EnergyPort cooperation GmbH), a strategic alliance consisting of RWE Generation SE, EnBW Neue Energie GmbH, RheinEnergie AG and Rostock Port GmbH.
Details of the new green hydrogen plant
While the final investment decision is expected in mid-2025, REPCO has stated its intention to contract ANDRITZ to supply the plant once the project has been approved. This development will become one of the first facilities in Germany to supply renewable hydrogen to the Hydrogen Core Grid, the future backbone infrastructure that will connect European energy markets with this key resource in the energy transition.
[post_relacionado]Once the contract is finalized, ANDRITZ will be responsible for the design, procurement and construction (EPC) of the plant, using HydrogenPro’s pressurized alkaline electrolysis technology. Its scope will include the production, storage and distribution of clean hydrogen, as well as purification and compression systems. Commercial operation is planned for 2027.
Key strategy for decarbonisation
REPCO’s plant will strengthen Rostock’s position as a key logistics hub for energy transport in Europe. It will also supply renewable hydrogen to industrial and mobility sectors, in line with Germany’s decarbonisation strategy. Michael Wurzel, CEO of REPCO, emphasised that this 100 MW electrolyser is the central component of the HyTechHafen Rostock project, which seeks to strengthen the region’s role in the energy transition.
Sami Pelkonen, Executive Vice President of Green Hydrogen at ANDRITZ, stressed the importance of collaboration in these projects, highlighting the support of major German energy companies and Rostock Port GmbH in this sustainable initiative.
The REPCO consortium was established in 2022 with the aim of developing green hydrogen production and distribution infrastructure in Germany. This is the second contract that ANDRITZ has received in the country for a 100 MW plant, following its first order from Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH.
