The partnership between Allseas and Boskalis has been selected by CPC Corporation Taiwan to carry out an offshore gas pipeline project. This contract, valued at approximately 1.2 billion euros, involves the design and installation of the second subsea pipeline between Yongan and Tongxiao(YT2), as part of efforts to improve the supply of natural gas in the north of the country.
The strategic natural gas pipeline project of the natural gas network
The route of the new pipeline, with a diameter of 36 inches and a length of 232 kilometers, will run parallel to the existing YT1 section. In addition, it is scheduled to run from 2026 to 2028, with the objective of increasing natural gas transportation capacity from the LNG terminal in Yongan to the transfer station in Tongxiao, on the northwest coast.
[post_relacionado]Allseas will be responsible for the installation and pre-commissioning of the pipeline, deploying two specialized laying vessels. It will also be responsible for laying subsea concrete supports, which are essential to stabilize the infrastructure on the seabed.
For his part, Boskalis will be responsible for the land access and microtunneling maneuvers required for the connection to the coastal areas. It will also undertake the dredging of ditches and the installation of rock protection at 34 crossing points over existing or planned infrastructures.
The award of the YT2 pipeline is part of Taiwan’s strategy to minimize its dependence on coal and increase the use of natural gas as an energy source. The construction of this submarine pipeline responds to the need to guarantee a continuous and safe flow of energy in industrial areas in the north, reinforcing the country’s energy security.
This type of offshore work requires high-precision technical coordination, from infrastructure design to commissioning, integrating marine engineering solutions, pipeline installation and seabed protection.
