A humanoid robot has managed to open a car door using only its sensors and body. It is Morninethe robot created by AiMOGA Robotics, which has become the first to perform this task without preprogrammed scripts or remote control.
What you should know about the Mornine robot
Mornine was trained with millions of simulations in virtual environments until he taught himself to identify handles, focus on the right area and apply the necessary force in arms, torso and legs to open a door. All this was achieved through the use of a visual-linguistic model, depth cameras, 3D LiDAR and reinforcement learning, without anyone telling him what a handle is.
Having completed his digital training, Mornine was deployed at Chery 4S dealerships in China using Sim2Real transfer techniques. There, she continues to collect sensory data during her tasks to improve her cloud capabilities through continuous learning.
Today, Mornine opens vehicle doors, greets customers and presents available models at points of sale. Its mobility, environmental perception and ability to physically interact with objects represent a technical leap in the integration of robots in retail.
