In eastern India, Adani Power announced that it has received a letter of intent from Bihar State Power Generation Company Limited (BSPGCL) for the development and operation of a 2,400 MW coal-fired power plant in Pirpainti, Bhagalpur district.
A coal-fired power plant to power Bihar
The project involves the construction of three units of 800 MW each, under the Design, Build, Finance, Own and Operate (DBFOO) model. Once commissioned, it will supply 2,274 MW net to North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (NBPDCL) and South Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited (SBPDCL). The power will be generated from coal provided under the SHAKTI Policy of the Government of India.
[post_relacionado]The first unit is scheduled to start operations within 48 months after the official start-up date, while the third unit will be commissioned in 60 months. The estimated investment amounts to US$3 billion, which positions this development as one of the largest private sector commitments in thermal generation in the last decade in the country.
Economic and social impact
During the construction phase, between 10,000 and 12,000 direct and indirect jobs are expected to be created, and around 3,000 permanent jobs once the plant is operational. According to the company, the new plant will provide stable and competitively priced power, supporting the industrialization of Bihar and strengthening the state’s base generation capacity.
