The Longitude organization, part of the design and engineering division of global consulting firm ABL Group has been chosen by PACC Offshore Services Holdings (POSH), a Singapore-based offshore marine solutions company, as a subcontractor for a major job related to the installation of an offshore FLNG project off the coast of Congo.
Procurement for the FLNG project
POSH selected Longitude to take on the offshore operations engineering for the FLNG Nguya facility, a project in the development of the liquefied natural gas industry in the region. The FLNG Nguya unit has a liquefaction capacity of 2.4 million tons per annum (mtpa) and forms part of Phase 2 of the Eni’s Congo LNG project project, the first LNG project in the African country.
[post_relacionado]Longitude ‘s scope includes specialized engineering services and the development of procedures associated with the maintenance operations of the Nguya liquefied natural gas station, the connection of submerged rotating yoke moorings and the retraction of risers (structures that allow the extraction of gas from the seabed).
In addition, the company will deploy connection commanders and station captains to oversee offshore operations, ensuring that everything is conducted in a safe and efficient manner.
This is an important energy project not only for the Republic of Congo, but also to facilitate the export of LNG.

POSH was previously contracted by Wison New Energiesthe EPCIC(Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning) contractor for the FLNG, to manage the towing and delivery of the unit to the Republic of Congo. In addition, POSH plans to use three tugs and one additional tug to maintain the FLNG terminal strategy during the hook-up phase, highlighting the complexity and scale of the operation.
The Congo LNG project is designed to exploit the region’s natural gas resources, specifically from the Marine XII project, with the installation of two FLNG units in the Nenè and Litchendjili fields.
The departure ceremony for the FLNG Nguya unit took place two weeks ago, and it is expected to be joined soon by its sister unit, FLNG Tango. The 376-meter long and 60-meter wide FLNG Nguya is one of the largest and most advanced of its kind in the region.
In parallel, Saipemthe Italian engineering and construction multinational, recently completed the conversion of the Scarabeo 5 semi-submersible drilling unit into a floating production unit(FPPU) for the same project. Once installed, this floating plant will be responsible for the separation and pumping of hydrocarbons, functioning as a control center for the entire offshore development field of the Congo LNG project.
