NKT has strengthened its expansion project by building a new extrusion tower for what will be the world’s largest high-voltage marine electric cable plant. It has also started pouring concrete using slipforming for the third extrusion tower at the site, a structure that will become the second tallest tower in Karlskrona, Sweden.

With the arrival of concrete trucks on site, NKT is making rapid progress on the construction of this tower, designed to reach an imposing height of 200 meters. This new development is part of the company’s strategy to respond to an increasing global demand for power cables to facilitate the transition to renewable energy sources. The tower symbolizes NKT’s continuous investments in increasing its capacity and optimizing its production capabilities.
[post_relacionado]In the coming months, the pace of construction will be maintained with concrete being delivered at a rate of one truckload per hour, ensuring that the tower grows at a steady rate of 2.6 meters per day. This structure will be instrumental in improving the production capacity of larger and longer high-voltage cables, essential components for modern energy infrastructure. The decision to expand production capacity is driven by a record order book that reflects the growing need for advanced cabling solutions.
The extrusion tower will play a key role in the production process, enabling insulation to be added to the high-voltage cables manufactured at the plant. This construction is part of a broader investment program in NKT’s high-voltage cable business, which includes the addition of a second cable-laying vessel that will be operational in 2027. Moreover, NKT plans to increase its workforce, with the hiring of more than 500 new employees by 2027, and is already moving forward with this process in Karlskrona.
