Navantia Seanergies has completed the fabrication of the first foundation monopile for Iberdrola’s East Anglia Three offshore wind project in the United Kingdom. This has been achieved at Navantia-Windar’s monopile plant, located at the Fene shipyard in A Coruña, Spain.
Under a contract signed at the beginning of 2023 with ScottishPower Renewables, the British subsidiary of Iberdrola the Navantia-Windar consortium is in charge of delivering 45 monopiles for the 1.4 GW East Anglia Three offshore wind farm. In addition, the Spanish Haizea Wind Group will produce another 50 monopiles for this 95-turbine wind farm under a separate contract.
East Anglia Three and Navantia’s production of monopiles
[post_relacionado]May 2023, Windar Renovables signed a contract to deliver 95 transition pieces (TP) for the project. . The production of these parts is mainly carried out at the company’s facilities in Avilés. Navantia’s monopiles for East Anglia Three have a diameter of up to 10.6 meters, a maximum length of 85 meters and can weigh up to 1,800 tons.
Iberdrola was awarded a contract for differences for the 1.4 GW wind farm in July 2022. The East Anglia Three project, located 69 km off the coast of Suffolk in England, will have 95 Siemens Gamesa wind turbines of more than 14 MW and is expected to start generating electricity in 2026.
This project is part of Iberdrola’s £6.5 billion (around €7.7 billion) East Anglia Hub, which includes two other wind farms: 800 MW East Anglia One North and 900 MW East Anglia Two.
This achievement highlights the commitment of Navantia and its partners to the transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy, advancing in the production of key infrastructures for the offshore wind energy sector.
