Mexico and Australia: allies for oil
Last Tuesday, the Government of Mexico announced that an Australian company will make a significant investment in collaboration with the state company Petróleos Mexicanos ( Pemex ) with the aim of producing oil and gas starting in 2028.
[post_relacionado]The Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, shared through his social networks that he held a meeting at the National Palace, the headquarters of the Executive branch, with senior managers of the company Woodside Energy, led by its executive director, Meg O’Neill. During the meeting, the collaboration they are planning with Pemex was addressed.
“We received Meg O’Neill, CEO of the company Woodside Energy, which, associated with Pemex, is developing a deep-water oil field 180 kilometers east of Matamoros, Tamaulipas (in northeastern Mexico),” said the president.
He specified that the total investment will reach 11,679 million dollars in order to generate a production of 110,000 barrels of crude oil per day and 90 million cubic feet of gas starting in 2028 .
“ We are in the energy transition, but it will still be necessary for two or three decades to use hydrocarbons rationally ,” concluded López Obrador.
Present at the meeting, representing Mexico, were the Minister of Energy, Rocío Nahle, and the Minister of Economy, Raquel Buenrostro, along with the general director of Pemex, Octavio Romero Oropeza, and the governor of Tamaulipas, Américo Villareal.
On behalf of Woodside Energy, the executive vice president of projects, Matthew Ridolfi, participated; the vice president for Trion, Stephan Drouaud; the general director and legal representative in Mexico, Timothy Callahan, and the director of Corporate Affairs in Mexico, Alfonso Solís Haces.
