AES Corporation has taken a strategic step in its consolidation as a key supplier of renewable energy by signing two long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Meta. The contracts will supply 650 MW of solar energy to the technology company’s data centers located in the coverage area of the Southwest Power Pool (SPP), an electrical grid that supplies part of the southern and midwestern United States.
The alliance between AES and Meta
With this alliance, Meta continues to advance its goal of operating with 100% renewable electricity. Urvi Parekh, the company’s global energy director, expressed her enthusiasm for working with AES to promote these two solar energy projects. For his part, Andres Gluski, CEO of AES, highlighted the efficiency of the projects emphasizing that the solutions offered by the company respond quickly and at low cost, so we remain the preferred partner for companies that lead innovation in IA.

AES confirmed that construction will generate hundreds of temporary jobs and leave millions of dollars in tax revenue for the host communities. These benefits will bolster school and county budgets for years to come.
The energy backup that the data centers will receive data centers Meta’s data centers is critical at a time when artificial intelligence demands energy-intensive digital infrastructures. These facilities require stable operations, with continuous and clean supply, making solar PPAs the optimal solution.
AES and its positioning among global hyperscalers
With this transaction, AES accumulates 10.1 GW in agreements with hyperscalers, including 7.7 GW in long-term PPAs for renewable developments specifically designed for data centers. AES currently operates 32.7 GW of installed capacity, has 12.3 GW of signed contracts in process and a development pipeline reaching 65 GW.
