Mabanaft and Hapag-Lloyd have entered into a B30 biofuel supply agreement. This agreement started with a first delivery of 1,000 tonnes of VLSFO B30, improving the supply chain of maritime routes while reducing polluting emissions.
Mabanaft and Hapag-Lloyd agree on biofuel supply
The first cargo was delivered from Mabanaft’s Waltershof tank terminal in the Port of Hamburg to the container ship Delaware Express. This operation marks the adoption of cleaner fuels and creates new possibilities for future deliveries and increased volumes of biofuels, with the aim of increasing these by 2025.

“We want to change that,” said Michael Wiring, Senior Manager Marine Fuels at Mabanaft, highlighting the key role this agreement will play in the supply of green fuels in the region.

B30 biofuel is a blend of biofuel and marine fuel designed to reduce CO₂ emissions without requiring modifications to ship engines. This makes B30 an attractive short-term alternative for the shipping industry, especially given the regulatory demands on emissions.
Mabanaft ‘s Director of Fuels and Marine Industry, Helmut Oldekamp, stressed that this biofuel solution is perfectly suited to the need to reduce polluting emissions in maritime transport.
