The substation base for the Hollandse Kust West Beta wind farm has left the Smulders shipyard in Vlissingen, The Netherlands, and is on its way to the site of the offshore wind farm sitelocated approximately 53 km off the coast of Egmond aan Zee.
Progress on the Hollandse Kust West Beta wind farm
On May 16, the 49-meter jacket departed the shipyard in Vlissingen after completing the loading of the structure and piles earlier in the month. On the other hand, the piles, which weigh a total of 900 tons and measure up to 79 meters in length, will be used to anchor the jacket to the seabed, and once in place, Heerema Marine Contractors’ jack-up vessel Sleipnir will hoist the structure and position it on the seabed.
[post_relacionado]As for future plans, next year will see the installation of the upper part of the Hollandse Kust West Beta substation, which is currently being built at the Equans shipyard in Hoboken, Belgium, on the approximately 2,300-ton jacket.
TenneT awards cable contract to Boskalis and Orient Cable
Importantly, in early 2022, Dutch-German transmission system operator TenneT awarded a consortium consisting of Boskalis and Orient Cable (NBO) a contract for the Hollandse Kust West Beta export cable, which will connect the 700 MW offshore platform to TenneT’s onshore network in the Netherlands.
Similarly, the connection between the offshore cables of the Hollandse Kust West Beta wind farm and the Wijk aan Zee transformer station will be installed by the NRG consortium, consisting of Denys, Alsema and Van Vulpen, under a contract signed with TenneT in May 2022.
Finally, Hollandse Kust West Beta is the third and final marine substation that Smulders and Equans are building for TenneT. The joint venture has already delivered the Hollandse Kust Noord platform, which was installed in October 2022, and the Hollandse Kust West Alpha platform, which was put in place about 50 km offshore Egmond aan Zee a year later.
