Hapag-Lloyd announced in a statement that it has signed a long-term supply agreement with Goldwind, a leading Chinese company specializing in clean energy .
This agreement will guarantee the annual supply of 250,000 tonnes of green methanol , composed of a mixture of bio- and e-methanol, which will reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 70%. With this initiative, the shipping company is getting closer to its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2045 .

Goldwind, a strategic partner in clean energy, plans to build a new green methanol plant in Hinggan League, China, which will start operations in 2026. This development is key to the sustained supply of green methanol to Hapag-Lloyd and other companies in the maritime industry. Goldwind, which has been recognized for its leadership in the energy transition, also shares the vision of a renewable and sustainable energy future, strongly supporting Hapag-Lloyd’s decarbonization goals.
Hapag-Lloyd has demonstrated its commitment to the future of the shipping industry through investments in cleaner fuels and innovative technologies. In addition to green methanol, the company is working on converting its fleet to fit a dual propulsion system that will include environmentally friendly methanol, contributing to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions. These efforts are aligned with its goal of reducing absolute emissions from its fleet by 30% by 2030 compared to 2022 levels.
