GA Drilling and Petrobras have established a strategic partnership to improve and optimize deep geothermal drilling. This technical partnership is in conjunction with Cenpes, Petrobras’ research and development center, and seeks to implement a well drilling system that can reduce construction costs and risks associated with more complex applications.
Deep geothermal drilling
This GA Drilling technology will be integrated with Petrobras’ infrastructure to develop a state-of-the-art drilling system. The new technology is based on a downhole anchor and drive system that will function as the core of an autonomous drilling system. This breakthrough will enable the drilling of deep and complex offshore wells from a light well intervention vessel, instead of relying on semi-submersible rigs or drillships, generating a 30% savings in well construction costs.
[post_relacionado]The CEO and co-founder of GA Drilling, Igor Kocis, mentioned that this collaboration with Petrobras will improve operational efficiency, and reduce the environmental footprint as well as overall operational risks. In addition, Kocis emphasized that working with Cenpes will accelerate the development of this technology, taking advantage of Petrobras’ advanced infrastructure and testing environments, which is critical to promote the global adoption of geothermal energy.
GA Drilling’s innovative system is designed to improve drilling efficiency and replace existing pipe with new continuous coiled tubing structures. This will minimize the risks associated with pipe handling, reduce operating times and improve well control.
In addition, the technology includes advanced drilling automation and control systems, as well as real-time communications with the surface, which optimizes the drilling process through direct contact with the rock surface.
