ClassNK, one of the world’s most influential classification societies, has awarded the world’s first certification for the use of green steel to the vessel “BRIGHT QUEEN” , operated by NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers Ltd. This achievement marks a significant step forward in the maritime industry , as it is the first ship to receive the a-EA (GRS) distinction, created to recognize the use of steel with low greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Bright Queen leads with green steel certification
The use of green steel, which contributes to reducing the carbon footprint in the manufacturing process, is gaining prominence in the maritime transport sector, within the framework of global efforts to decarbonize the supply chain. In this case, the “BRIGHT QUEEN” was built by Higaki Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. and is equipped with JGreeX steel from JFE Steel Corporation, an eco-friendly variant that has undergone a rigorous certification process by ClassNK to validate the reduction in GHG emissions.
