Deendayal Port in Kandla has inaugurated the first 1 MW green hydrogen plant in the country, consolidating its position as a pioneer in sustainability within the national port system. This plant represents the industry’s first concrete effort to produce green hydrogen directly at a port infrastructure, marking a new stage in the country’s energy transition.

During the opening ceremony, India’s Minister of Public Utilities and Social Welfare, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, highlighted the relevance of this initiative to achieve the national target of zero net emissions by 2070.
[post_relacionado]This project is part of a larger strategy that includes other ports, such as V.O. Chidambaranar in Tuticorin, which are also adapting to clean technologies. This green infrastructure network seeks to align the maritime ecosystem with international commitments to reduce emissions.
The facility will have the capacity to generate hydrogen using renewable energy, an essential step in replacing fuels in maritime operations. The technology used has been developed in India, enhancing its goal of technological sovereignty in energy solutions.
The development is being executed under the supervision of the Deendayal Port Authority, an entity that has demonstrated a rapid implementation capacity. This allows the port to become an operational model for other facilities in the country, both for its immediate results and its future projection in energy efficiency.
This green port development is directly linked to the national sustainability agenda led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The roadmap envisages multiple fronts, including the transition to a blue economy underpinned by clean energy and zero-emission shipping.
