The latest facility of Clean Energy Fuels Corp., a leading provider of clean fuels for the transportation market, was the production plant for renewable natural gas (RNG) at the Ash Grove Dairy farm in Minnesota. It now injects the quality RNG it produces into the interstate natural gas pipeline network. This represents a significant advance in the company’s mission to decarbonize transportation through the generation and distribution of clean energy.
The process of obtaining renewable natural gas
The facility, located on the 55-acre dairy farm that houses more than 2,000 cows, is capable of processing 60,000 gallons of manure per day. This material is converted into biogaswhich is then transformed into high quality, renewable natural gas, ready to be injected into the interstate network of pipeline network.
[post_relacionado]Once the facility reaches full capacity, it is expected to produce up to 480,000 gallons of gasoline equivalent (GGE) of LNG per year, with a negative carbon intensity, marking a notable contribution to greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction.
Financed by a $22 million investment, the project was developed by Dynamic Renewablesa joint venture of Clean Energy. The infrastructure has not only passed all required gas tests, but is now operational, beginning to supply NGVs to Clean Energy’s network of refueling stations, which serve commercial transportation fleets throughout the United States and Canada.
Clay Corbus, senior vice president of Clean Energy, highlighted the importance of the project by stating:
Ash Grove is our fifth NGV facility to come online in the past nine months. These types of developments are crucial in our efforts to reduce carbon emissions and meet the growing demand for sustainable fuels.
RNG and methane emissions
