The Jaén-based company Petroprix has taken a big step in its internationalization strategy with the inauguration of its first automatic gas station in the municipality of Águeda, Portugal. This marks the beginning of an ambitious plan to expand to other countries, including Chile and Panama, the company said in a press release.
Petroprix consolidates its position in the Portuguese market
In this first stage of expansion in Portugal, Petroprix will focus on the Lisbon and Porto regions, two of the country’s most important urban centers. The company has advanced that it has 60 projects in the pipeline and aims to close 2024 with 100 projects underway, 25 operating licenses and four stations open. Its goal is to reach 50 stations on Portuguese territory by 2026.

Baptista, who has experience in the expansion of Spanish companiesBaptista, has formed a team in charge of the maintenance, administration and customer service of the stations in the country. The support of the Jaén control and customer service center will enable the Portuguese stations to be managed remotely, guaranteeing safety and immediate attention to drivers.
A more economical gas station
The company replicates in Portugal its business model based on automatic gas stations with proprietary technology, a format that has proven to be between 10 and 20 cents cheaper than the traditional model. Manuel Santiago, CEO of Petroprix, has highlighted that the expansion strategy will focus on creating a network of stations on the outskirts of large urban areas, especially in coastal areas such as Lisbon, Porto and Algarve, facilitating refueling without unnecessary detours.
This business model has positioned Petroprix as one of the most competitively priced brands in Spain, generating estimated savings of between 270 and 320 euros per year for drivers, according to the Consumers’ Organization (OCU). The new stations in Portugal will have at least four pumps, offering simple gasoline and diesel for a fast and efficient refueling experience.
