Aptamus Carbon Solutions, a subsidiary of Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG), has entered into a strategic agreement with LBC Tank Terminals to design a marineCO2 offloading terminal in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. This development is part of a comprehensive infrastructure network that seeks to consolidate the CO2 supply chain from Florida to subway storage in the Gulf of America.
About the new CO2 terminals
The project includes a cargo terminal at the Port of Tampa Bay, configured as a carbon capture and liquefaction hub for the state of Florida, where more than 30 million tons ofCO2 are generated annually. Through the agreement, capturedCO2 will be transported by 20,000-ton tankers to the LBC terminal, which connects to an existing network ofCO2 pipelines and Class VI injection wells.

Support for the coast20 project feasibility study.
This progress is supported by the U.S. Department of Energy, which awarded two grants to OSG: one for the design of the Tampa Bay terminal and the other for the technical feasibility study of the entire maritime logistics chain, known as COAST20. This study contemplates not only the construction of the specialized vessel, but also the optimization of loading and unloading management, as well as integration with LBC’s facilities in Baton Rouge.
The northern region of the Gulf of America is positioned as one of the areas with the highest certified capacity for geological sequestration ofCO2 in the country, consolidating itself as a strategic axis for the transition to an economy with lower emissions.
