A Chinese heavy-lift ship, the Yu Zhou Qi Hang , ran aground off the coast of Taiwan after encountering Typhoon Kong-rey which hit the region. The ship was carrying three large container cranes and was stranded on the Taiwanese coast after strong waves and winds diverted its course.

The Taiwan Coast Guard Administration ( CGA ) intervened in the emergency and successfully rescued the 17 crew members, who, upon realizing the dangerous situation, decided to abandon the ship for safety reasons.
[post_relacionado]The accident occurred as the ship was leaving the port of Keelung bound for Zhangzhou in China’s Fujian province. Just hours after setting sail, the Yu Zhou Qi Hang began to drift due to the violent conditions caused by Typhoon Kong-rey. Just 2.4 nautical miles from the coast, the ship came dangerously close to the rocks, and tugboats attempting to rescue it had to withdraw due to the risk.
This is the second incident for the Yu Zhou Qi Hang , which had damaged its cranes in Keelung Port weeks earlier by colliding with port infrastructure. The Taiwan Coast Guard Administration , as well as the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board , are keeping the vessel’s condition under review to prevent future risks to nearby navigation.
Some photographs found on social media show how the waves hit the ship, causing one of the cranes to fall into the water. The CGA has assured that there were no injuries or pollution from oil spills in this shipwreck. Now, the Taiwanese authorities continue to monitor the area of the accident while studying possible interventions to remove the remains of the Yu Zhou Qi Hang from the coast.
