Energy technology leader Baker Hughes has taken a significant step towards sustainability in the energy sector with the launch of its all-electric subsea system . This advancement, presented at the company’s 25th Annual Meeting in Florence, Italy, marks a milestone in the electrification of offshore operations, providing a more efficient, reliable and carbon-efficient solution.
Innovation in offshore drilling operations
Baker Hughes’ new electric subsea system is the first of its kind in the industry. Designed for both deep and shallow water developments, this modular system allows for the conversion of existing technologies to 100% electric operation .

Key technologies for land and marine electrification
On land, Baker Hughes has introduced the Hummingbird electric cementing unit , a solution that replaces diesel engines with a combination of grid power and batteries. This innovative system reduces emissions and noise, while improving operational reliability.
Thanks to its electric design, Hummingbird allows operators to reduce costs and improve the consistency of cementing operations in a variety of field conditions.
Additionally, SureCONTROL Plus interval control valves (ICVs), designed for remote operation, are transforming zonal control in subsea and dry wells . By replacing numerous hydraulic lines with a single electrical line, SureCONTROL Plus improves operational efficiency and reduces the need for costly interventions.
