From September 11 to 14, the XIV Argentina Oil & Gas International Exhibition will take place in La Rural, a large fairground in Buenos Aires.

With more than 300 exhibitors and the expectation of the assistance of 20,000 qualified professionals, the AOG 2023 aims to foster dialogue between the main players in the industry, as well as design strategies for the continued growth of the hydrocarbons sector and cultivate an environment of commercial exchange that involves entrepreneurs from the entire oil value chain. and gas along with related industries.
In a recent official presentation of the AOG led by Ernesto López Anadón, President of the IAPG, the focus was on showing the resistance of the industry in the face of the challenges of a global pandemic and economic uncertainties. Surprisingly, despite these obstacles, production, especially in the gas field through activities in Vaca Muerta, has not only been maintained but has increased.
“The exhibition serves as a window into the future of the industry and the value it brings to our nation,” explained López Anadón. “The Neuquén Basin has only the potential to reach up to one and a half million barrels per day.”
AOG: Youthful Energy and Innovation
The first day of the event will feature the 7th edition of the Youth Oil and Gas (JOG) Day, a gathering designed by newcomers to the industry for young professionals and students. In its last edition, it had the participation of 320 young enthusiasts, a number that is expected to be exceeded this year.
JOG will comprise four thematic panels covering Upstream, Diversity and Inclusion, Applied Technologies and Midstream. More than 10 guest speakers will share insights on topics ranging from the energy transition to technological innovation, diversity and professional development.
According to López Anadón, “The younger generation often perceives the oil and gas industry as outdated and environmentally irresponsible. However, with technology developed to mitigate environmental damage, the industry is not only viable, it also has the potential to spark innovative ideas to further improve your operations.”
In addition, the 5th Latin American Congress and the 7th National Congress on Safety, Occupational Health and the Environment in the Oil and Gas Industry will begin on the same day.
Safety and sustainability in the foreground
Victor Coluccio, President of the Congress Organizing Committee, stressed the importance of safety and environmental responsibility in the oil and gas sector. He stressed that operations in this industry, without due consideration of safety and environmental protection, are unsustainable. Despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, the committee has remained committed to moving forward on these critical issues.
For this edition of the congress, a record number of presentations has been registered, exceeding 90. Of these, 21 have been selected for their focus on health, environmental protection and sustainability.
The motto of the congress, “A Sense of Vulnerability Present – Strength in Health, Safety and Environment”, underlines its role as a platform to share knowledge, experiences, challenges and the latest trends in areas such as industrial safety and hygiene, safe mobility , occupational health, environmental protection and sustainability in the oil and gas industry.
Managing Carbon Emissions: A Global Responsibility
One of the highlights of the event is the “Carbon Management” workshop, developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy. López Anadón stressed that countries must contribute to the reduction of their emissions as part of international agreements. South America is responsible for barely 6% of the accumulation of CO 2 in the atmosphere, significantly less than the developed world. However, to harness its resource potential while maintaining responsible environmental practices, efficiency is crucial.
The workshop is designed to put carbon management, capture and storage on the agenda. It represents the first step to generate low-emission assets, with actions such as the use of renewable energy for the extraction and processing of crude oil, with the goal of reaching zero methane emissions by 2030/40.
CEOs come together to share industry perspectives
From the second day, the “Meeting with CEOs” will begin. It will present thematic blocks with the participation of industry leaders such as Javier Martínez Álvarez, President for the Southern Cone of Tenaris; Gustavo Gallino, General Director of the Southern Area of Techint Engineering and Construction; Carlos Mundín, General Director of BTU. Catherine Remy, Vice President of Environment and Social Performance of Total Energies Argentina; Ricardo Rodríguez, CEO in Argentina, VP and Country Chair Argentina, Uruguay and Chile of Shell; and Pablo Iuliano, CEO of YPF, among other distinguished speakers.
Wednesday will feature the participation of Ricardo Hösel, CEO of Oldeval; Andrés Scarone, General Manager of MEGA; Andrés Cavallari, CEO of Raizen Argentina; Gustavo Astie, CEO of Pecom; Jorge Vidal, General Director of ABC (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile) at Schlumberger Argentina; and Marcos Bulgheroni, CEO of Pan American Energy.
A comprehensive program
The event also features a series of conferences that bring together leaders from the main leading companies in the industry. These sessions delve into the current landscape of compliance, third party harm prevention, sustainability, offshore operations, diversity and inclusion, and complement the technical activity of the IAPG.
In addition, another of the spaces will be dedicated to business rounds that aim to connect potential foreign buyers with Argentine producers in the oil and gas industry in a position to export.
This activity is organized by the IAPG together with the Argentine Investment Agency. There are already 10 confirmed buyers. The call is for national companies and is not exclusive to exhibitors. Through this space, in the previous edition, 960 meetings were held with firms from Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.
