Japanese shipping company Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) announced the addition of its new liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier, Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL). liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier (LPG), the Energia Grandeur, which will operate under charter contract with CSSA Chartering and Shipping Services SA, a subsidiary of TotalEnergies. The delivery was made by the South Korean shipyard Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries on January 29 off the port of Mokpo.

VLGC Energia Grandeur and its environmental approach

This new VLGC of 230 meters in length, powered by dual LPG dual LPG and heavy fuel oil and heavy fuel oil, stands out for its environmentally efficient design. Its LPG operation reduces CO2 emissions by 20% and sulfur oxides and fine particulate emissions by 90% compared to conventional fuel oil. In addition, the vessel has been designed to transport ammonia, a fuel with growing potential in the global energy transition because it does not emit carbon dioxide during combustion.

Moreover, the Energia Grandeur is equipped with a shaft generator, a technology that allows the diesel generators to be shut down when the main engines are running, improving overall energy efficiency. The vessel was financed through a transition-linked loan, which adjusts its conditions according to the fulfillment of previously established environmental objectives.

Ecological identity and long-term vision

This vessel is part of MOL’s “BLUE” fleet, whose visual identity combines navy blue and turquoise as a symbol of the group’s environmental commitment. MOL’s “BLUE ACTION 2035” strategy and Environmental Vision 2.2 aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, through sustainable solutions throughout its logistics chain.
