During his participation at SLOM, Markus Ginten, Head of Group Business Line at ROSEN, shared how the company is redefining critical asset inspection in Latin America. ROSEN, founded in Germany more than 40 years ago, has evolved from a company specialized in in-line inspection to a global leader in industrial asset integrity management.
With offices in Brazil, Colombia and Argentina, it has consolidated a solid regional presence; its participation in events such as SLOM reflects its commitment to technical exchange and the strengthening of integrity and safety standards in offshore terminals and systems in Latin America.
Robotics in the service of security
One of the highlights of the ROSEN booth was a robotic inspection tool on display. This device, designed and manufactured in-house, is capable of traversing the interior of complex pipelines in offshore environments, such as oil terminals and loading lines, collecting data with extreme precision without the need to dismantle or stop operations.
These robotic systems use advanced technologies such as phased array ultrasound, deformation sensors and electromagnetic modules. Their flexibility allows them to adapt to emerging materials such as composites and plastics, which are increasingly used in new infrastructures.
Markus Ginten emphasized that this type of tool represents the first link in the complete integrity cycle: “We collect data, evaluate, diagnose and implement action plans. It’s all part of a reliable inspection.
From inspection to digital twin
The use of digital twins in marine terminals and assets is one of ROSEN’s most promising developments. This model consists of creating a digital replica of the physical asset, based on the information collected by the robotic tools.
This digital twin is not a simple 3D visualization, it is fed by historical variables, operating conditions and previously detected damage patterns. Thanks to its centralized data warehouse, with more than one million kilometers of inspected pipelines, the company can perform statistical and predictive comparisons even on assets that have not yet been physically inspected. Moreover, the company has incorporated artificial intelligence and advanced analytics to power these models, allowing it to anticipate risks, project behaviors and improve decision-making in the field.
“Even if the pipeline has not been inspected, our algorithms can predict the probability of defects based on comparable conditions.”
Ginten noted.
Homemade innovation
One of ROSEN’s competitive advantages is that it develops its technologies in-house. This allows it to respond quickly to market demands, adapt sensors to new materials and maintain total control over diagnostic quality.
In addition, the company is investing in the energy future, operating at its headquarters in Germany, a laboratory dedicated to hydrogen, where it conducts tests and develops specific tools for this energy vector, as well as for CO₂ and other emerging fuels.
Smarter terminals, more accurate decisions
ROSEN is already working on new solutions that combine robotics, AI and digitalization. Among the innovations it plans to highlight in 2025 are autonomous inspection systems and improvements to its fault detection algorithms, especially focused on offshore terminals and cargo lines.
The combination of digital twins, advanced robotics and historical databases promises to transform the traditional approach to inspection from reactive interventions to proactive maintenance and management strategies.
