Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners(CIP), through its CI Advanced Bioenergy Fund I, has made the final decision to invest in Nivalan Biokaasu, the project that will become Finland’s largest industrial biogas plant. Construction of the complex will start at the end of 2025 and it is expected to be operational in the second half of 2027.

The plant will be supported by a CAPEX grant from the Finnish Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, which underlines its national importance. In addition, the development is being carried out in collaboration with the local developer Wega and the authorities of the Nivala region, where it will be located.
[post_relacionado]Once operational, Nivalan Biokaasu will process more than 600,000 tons of organic waste. organic waste of agricultural and industrial origin per year. The plant will produce renewable liquefied natural gas(bio-LNG) and green methane, reducing fossil CO2 emissions by up to 38,000 tons per year.
This project marks CIP’s entry into the Finnish bioenergy market. According to Thomas Dalsgaard, CIP’s partner, the initiative will strengthen Finland’s energy autonomy, as well as promote rural employment and the development of agricultural infrastructure.
Following its founding in 2012, CIP currently manages 13 funds with a cumulative capital of €32 billion. Although its focus has been on Denmark, this investment in Finland represents its first foray into the country through the CI Advanced Bioenergy Fund I, consolidating its presence in the European advanced bioenergy arena.
