The Rolls-Royce Group, through its Power Systems division, and the German company INERATEC have signed a partnership to apply synthetic fuels in data center power backup systems.
Synfuels as a reliable energy solution
The rise of artificial intelligence has generated an increasing demand for electricity in digital facilities. Data centers, essential to ensure the continuity of digital services, require emergency power solutions capable of operating sustainably. In response, Rolls-Royce mtu and Power-to-X technology provider INERATEC plan to integrate e-diesel produced from renewable hydrogen and carbon dioxide into emergency power generators.
[post_relacionado]Implementation will begin on German soil, where the ERA ONE plant in Frankfurt will enable agile and proximity logistics. These synthetic fuels comply with global environmental standards such as ISCC, and are formulated to reduce the carbon footprint without compromising performance.
The use of e-fuels offers a scalable and ready alternative to address power supply challenges in data centers hosting artificial intelligence applications. “Our mtu generators are ready to run on sustainable fuels, and our customers will soon be able to adopt carbon-neutral solutions,” said Tobias Ostermaier, Rolls-Royce Power Systems executive.
Maximilian Backhaus, commercial director of INERATEC, emphasized that the collaboration aims to deliver clean energy solutions right where they are most needed. Both partners plan to scale this alliance to an international level in the medium term.
This synergy between the two companies reflects a growing trend towards decarbonization in strategic sectors. By offering a fossil-free alternative for emergency power in data centers, both companies position e-fuels as a viable tool in the global energy transition.
