During the PANNDT conference, Thorsten Achterkirchen, vice president of Industrial X-ray Solutions at Teledyne Imagin, shared the company’s advancements and strategies to continue to lead the nondestructive inspection market. Technological innovation for extreme environments
One of Teledyne’s cornerstones is the ability to develop X-ray equipment designed to operate in extremely demanding conditions. Achterkirchen explained that the portable generators are designed to operate in both high-temperature desert areas and polar freezing regions. This versatility is key in sectors such as energy, construction and infrastructure maintenance, where inspections must be carried out away from fixed installations.

Digitization in non-destructive inspection
The transition from film analysis to digital solutions is another core aspect of Teledyne’s strategy, offering a combination of high-performance generators with precision digital detectors, integrated through software systems that maximize throughput and traceability. This is essential for sectors such as aerospace, which is currently adopting digital technologies at an accelerated pace, seeking higher resolution, efficiency and compliance with demanding quality standards.
Real cases that demonstrate efficiency
During the interview, a success story was shared from France, where an industrial customer decided to modernize its inspection system by abandoning the traditional use of radiographic film. The company purchased a complete solution provided by Teledyne, which included an X-ray generator, a Ghost Scan detector and an integrated software system.
Thanks to this transition, the French company was able to significantly reduce inspection times and eliminate chemical development processes, thereby also reducing the environmental impact of its operations. In addition, the integration between hardware and software allowed operators to improve diagnostic accuracy and manage images in a more agile way, increasing the overall productivity of the equipment.

New products leading the way
CP200B: total autonomy for field inspections
Among the most outstanding innovations presented by the company is the CP200B, a 200 kV portable industrial X-ray generator that runs entirely on battery power, eliminating the need for cables or external power, which facilitates its use in field inspections such as pipelines, refineries or structures with limited access.
The CP200B represents a significant improvement in terms of mobility and autonomy, as it is designed to integrate with digital detectors and is controlled by a tablet that allows all parameters to be managed from a single interface. Its robust design and long battery life make it an ideal tool for technicians who need to be constantly on the move and operate in environments that are difficult to access.
C-View: real-time inspection of corrosion under insulation
In addition, the company also presented the C-View, oriented to the real-time inspection of corrosion under insulation (CUI) allowing the scanning of pipe sections without the need to remove the coating, which reduces operating time and costs. It uses digital X-rays in continuous mode to provide direct visualization of areas affected by internal corrosion.
This system has been specially designed for work in process plants where shutting down operations involves high costs. With C-View, maintenance teams can quickly diagnose critical areas without interruptions or disassembly. Also on display was a family of digital detector panels that, together with the generators, can be controlled from a single tablet. This integration simplifies the operator’s work and improves the traceability of inspections.
Screenings and upcoming meetings
As Teledyne expands its portfolio of solutions, it is also positioning its presence at international trade shows such as this year’s Pan American Nondestructive Testing Conference. In addition, Achterkirchen confirmed the company’s participation in the next edition of ASNT in Orlando, where these and more of the company’s developments will be presented.
