Gibraltar-based Gibdock Shipyard has completed the refurbishment of the Deep Blue, one of the most specialized vessels in TechnipFMC’s fleet for pipelaying and deepwater subsea and deepwater subsea construction work.

The project, which was carried out at Gibdock Dock No. 1, included critical tasks such as steel refurbishment, pipe replacement, hull and tank cleaning and coating, as well as technical overhauls of machinery. To facilitate these operations, the Deep Blue was raised 3.7 meters and supported on 428 blocks, which allowed the Deep Blue to be disassembled and overhauled.This made it possible to disassemble and overhaul its eight thrusters.

Both the Gibdock team and TechnipFMC personnel collaborated closely during all phases of the work, prioritizing safety and quality of execution. The Deep Blue is equipped with advanced pipe-laying technologies in reel, J and flex configuration. Its two reels have a capacity of 2800 metric tons each, allowing it to operate on projects at depths of up to 3000 meters. Gibdock’s regular customer TechnipFMC moved the vessel from the U.S. Gulf to Gibraltar, underlining the confidence in the shipyard’s technical capabilities. Following the successful completion of the project, the Deep Blue was mobilized outside Europe, reinforcing Gibdock’s international projection as a strategic partner for clients in the offshore sector. offshore sector.
