For more than five decades, Emerson has been a leader in tank gauging technologies. Through its subsidiary Rosemount Tank Gauging, the company has developed solutions that make it possible to control the storage of bulk liquids with highly reliable instruments. Rich Ireland, Regional Sales Manager for the East Coast of the United States and Canada, explained in an interview that the main focus is to offer primary measurement and overfill prevention systems integrated into digital platforms.
Digital radar technology: Emerson’s bet for the future
Currently, the core technology of the company’s systems is radar, a method that changed the industry more than 50 years ago and today is integrated into digital ecosystems that enable greater operational efficiency. Rich said the company’s goal is to provide operators with total control of their inventories and prevent overfilling incidents. The vision for the future focuses on cloud-based solutions that will facilitate connectivity and remote accessibility of critical tank data.
However, the sector faces significant obstacles, as in the case of North America, where the lack of strict standards for product custody transfer means that many operators do not have adequate instrumentation. In addition, most of the tanks are “old vintage”, meaning they are not adapted to incorporate modern measurement technologies.
Affordable solutions for safer operation
With small and medium-sized operators in mind, the company is working on wireless solutions that reduce the need for large infrastructure investments. Ireland said they want to bring security and accuracy to terminals that traditionally could not afford complete systems. This approach seeks to democratize access to advanced technologies, improving operational control and security without compromising economic viability.
