Japanese offshore solutions provider MODEC has been selected by ExxonMobil Guyana to develop the floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel to service the Hammerhead project in the Stabroek Block. The award marks the second collaboration between the two companies in the region.
The Hammerhead Project’s Impetus
Currently under a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP), the contract allows MODEC to initiate the front-end engineering and design (FEED) phase with a view to ensuring delivery of the FPSO in 2029. This first phase is subject to regulatory and government approvals, while further execution of engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) will depend on additional approvals and internal decisions by ExxonMobil Guyana and its partners.
[post_relacionado]As announced, the Hammerhead FPSO will have the capacity to process up to 150,000 barrels of crude oil per day, along with associated gas and water. The vessel will be anchored at a depth of 1,025 meters using an extended mooring system designed by SOFEC, a specialized subsidiary of MODEC.
This new FPSO joins the Errea Wittu, currently under construction for the Uaru project, and consolidates MODEC’s presence in the South American Caribbean. As part of the agreement, an Operations and Maintenance Enabling Agreement (OMEA) was also formalized, which will allow for the management of multiple FPSO units in Guyana under a long-term contractual arrangement.
