Tsakos Energy Navigation (TEN), one of the leading shipowners in the maritime sector , has announced a historic agreement with Transpetro, Petrobras’ main subsidiary, for the construction of nine DP2 Suezmax shuttle tankers. This contract is valued at $2 billion.
The construction of the DP2 tankers
The DP2 Suezmax tankers will be built at the prestigious Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea, with deliveries expected between 2027 and 2028. These vessels are designed to operate in extreme conditions and are specially configured for the transport of crude oil through complex maritime routes.

Expansion and revenue projection
With this new contract, TEN consolidates its position as one of the world’s largest owners of DP2 Suezmax shuttle vessels, with a fleet that currently includes 16 tankers of this type. The agreement is expected to generate gross revenues of nearly $2 billion, consolidating TEN’s position as a key player in the global crude oil transportation market.
The construction of these new tankers strengthens TEN’s fleet and demonstrates Petrobras ‘ confidence in TEN’s ability to meet its rigorous operating standards. According to George Saroglou, TEN’s president, this agreement is part of its strategy to continue offering innovative, high-capacity solutions to major international oil groups.
