The Badische Anilin-und Soda-Fabrik (BASF) has started up a 54 MW water electrolyzer at its plant in Ludwigshafen, Germany. This pioneering system, the largest of its kind in Germany, aims to produce carbon-neutral hydrogen , an essential raw material in the chemical industry.
With a capacity of up to 8,000 metric tons of hydrogen per year, this technology will contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 72,000 tons per year.

[post_relacionado]The electrolyzer was designed in collaboration with Siemens Energy and is directly integrated into the Badische Anilin-und Soda-Fabrik production infrastructure. Thanks to this integration, the system will supply the Verbund Site Ludwigshafen plant with green hydrogen and also provide a clean source for the mobility sector in the Rhein-Neckar region, thereby promoting the growth of the hydrogen economy .
This project, which has funding of up to €124.3 million , underscores the company’s commitment to the energy transition. In addition to improving the sustainability of its production, BASF continues to advance its goal of achieving carbon neutrality in its industrial processes.
