TotalEnergies has signed a green hydrogen supply agreement with RWE to supply 30,000 tons of hydrogen annually to the Leuna refinery in Germany . This long-term agreement, which will extend for 15 years starting in 2030, marks a significant step forward in the decarbonization of the European energy sector.
The green hydrogen , produced using a 300 MW electrolyzer in Lingen, will be transported to the refinery via a 600-kilometer pipeline, contributing to the reduction of around 300,000 tons of CO₂ annually from the date of start of operations.

TotalEnergies and its commitment to decarbonization
The agreement with RWE aligns with TotalEnergies’ efforts to reduce its carbon footprint at its European refineries. The company has already signed contracts to supply more than 200,000 tons of green hydrogen annually to its facilities in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, and Germany, with the goal of reducing its CO₂ emissions by three million tons annually by 2030.
This type of collaboration strengthens the role of hydrogen as a pillar of the energy transition both in Europe and globally, positioning companies like TotalEnergies and RWE as leaders in the fight for sustainability.
