Swedish ferry company Stena Line has taken a new step in its sustainability strategy with the successful launch of Stena Connecta , the second hybrid ferry in its NewMax fleet. Designed to operate on methanol as its primary fuel, this vessel will contribute to reducing emissions and improving efficiency on the Belfast-Heysham route in the Irish Sea.

The Stena Connecta stands out for integrating technologies that optimize energy consumption. In addition to the use of methanol , it will be equipped with battery propulsion and shore power, provided these options are available in ports. An innovative aspect of the vessel is the incorporation of rotor sails, which take advantage of wind energy to provide auxiliary propulsion and reduce fuel consumption.
