AP Moller-Maersk and Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with an aim to boost shipbuilding and ship repair in India . This initiative is in line with the Indian government’s plans to position the country among the top five maritime hubs of the world, as outlined in Vision 2047 and the recent announcements in the Union Budget 2025-26.
A key boost for the maritime industry
The collaboration between Maersk and CSL comes at a critical time, when ship repair yards are facing high global demand. This partnership seeks to consolidate India as a benchmark in shipbuilding and maintenance services, strengthening maritime infrastructure and generating new opportunities for the industry.
[post_relacionado]Maersk will leverage its global fleet management expertise to enhance CSL’s technical capabilities. In a first stage, the collaboration will focus on container ship maintenance and repair , with dry dock operations for vessels of up to 4,000 TEUs and afloat repairs for vessels of up to 7,000 TEUs , according to the Mundo Maritimo portal. These capabilities are expected to be progressively expanded over time.
In addition, in the first stage, the collaboration will focus on vessels of up to 7,000 TEUs for afloat repairs and up to 4,000 TEUs for ships in dry dock, with a projection of progressive expansion of capacities in the future.

Boat repair and growth of the sector
The first refit of a Maersk vessel at CSL is planned for 2025 , marking the start of a long-term collaboration. In addition, the partnership will benefit from the recently announced Maritime Transport Development Fund, which seeks to ensure affordable and long-term financing for the sector.
With this partnership, Maersk and CSL reinforce their commitment to innovation and growth in the maritime sector in India, contributing to the consolidation of the country as a strategic hub in the global shipbuilding industry.
