Shipping company, Pacific International Lines ( PIL ), has taken delivery of its third 14,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship. The vessel was christened “ Kota Ebony ”, named at a ceremony held at the Shanghai shipyard by Mrs. Giselle Kastrup, wife of Mr. Lars Kastrup, CEO of PIL.

The name “Kota Ebony” symbolizes strength and elegance, reflecting the vessel’s robust capabilities and modern, streamlined design. This is the third vessel in a series of four 14,000 TEU vessels designed and built by Jiangnan Shipyard, one of China’s leading shipyards. These vessels are the largest in PIL’s fleet and the first to be powered by LNG.

The first two sister vessels, Kota Eagle and Kota Emerald, were delivered in October and December last year and are already successfully operating in our Latin American service network. We are now proud to add Kota Ebony to reinforce the service on the east coast of Latin America.

The 14,000 TEU series of vessels feature an optimized hull form and large refrigeration capacity, ideal for Latin American trade. They also incorporate multiple features such as a high-performance antifouling coating to reduce fuel consumption, exhaust gas recirculation systems to reduce methane emissions from the main engine , and improved data connectivity technology to improve safety and operational efficiency.
Pacific International Lines has ordered a total of 18 newbuild vessels from 2022. In addition to the four 14,000 TEU vessels, PIL has four 8,000 TEU vessels, five 13,000 TEU vessels and five 9,000 TEU vessels on order.
Our fourth 14,000 TEU vessel is expected to arrive in the coming months, to be joined by a further 14 biomethane-capable dual-fuel vessels to be delivered progressively throughout 2025 and beyond.
This significant investment represents PIL’s ongoing efforts to renew the fleet, as well as our unwavering commitment to making shipping more environmentally sustainable as we chart our path to carbon neutrality by 2050.
