Safran Electrical & Power has obtained certification for its ENGINeUS 100 electric motor from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency ( EASA ), in order to begin testing and implement the latest production revisions.

The ENGINeUS 100 certification process included 1,500 hours of engine bench testing and more than 100 hours of real-world flight time. For four years, Safran worked with EASA to establish specific airworthiness standards for electric propulsion and to design appropriate assessment procedures.
[post_relacionado]The ENGINeUS 100 engine features a compact design, light weight and air cooling system, making it easy to integrate into various propulsion architectures. It offers a maximum power of 125 kW, with a weight/power ratio of 5 kW/kg, one of the best in the sector.
Safran plans to start serial production of the ENGINeUS range in 2026, with four semi-automated manufacturing lines in Niort ( France ) and Pitstone ( United Kingdom ). This infrastructure will enable the production of more than 1,000 engines per year, with the capacity to be expanded according to demand.
The engine is designed to meet a variety of air mobility configurations: from 100% electric propulsion for small aircraft with up to four passengers, to hybrid-electric propulsion for regional and commercial aircraft with a capacity of up to 150 passengers. Manufacturers that have opted for the ENGINeUS range include AURA AERO, Bye Aerospace, CAE, Diamond Aircraft, Electra, TCab Tech and VoltAero .

This has been a fascinating project for EASA and the first test of our Special Condition designed for the certification of hybrid and fully electric propulsion.
