The Prysmian Group has officially added the Monna Lisa to its fleet, a cable-laying vessel designed to strengthen its operational capacity in the renewable energy sector. With this addition, the Italian company reaffirms its leadership in submarine cable infrastructure.
Monna Lisa: a cable-laying vessel with ecological improvements
The Monna Lisa , built by the Norwegian group VARD, is the sister ship of the Leonardo da Vinci , presented in 2022. With a length of 171 metres, this vessel has been developed to offer the same capacity and performance as its predecessor, but with ecological improvements that reduce its environmental impact.
[post_relacionado]Among its most notable features is an energy storage system with double the battery capacity and the possibility of connecting to land to operate with clean energy while in port.
According to the Offshore Energy portal, the keel-laying ceremony was held in Romania in April 2023 to begin construction, which lasted around 24 months.

Responding to the growing demand for clean energy
The decision to invest €240 million in the construction of the Monna Lisa responds to the increasing demand for advanced cable solutions. With six vessels in its fleet, Prysmian seeks to accelerate the global energy transition by providing critical infrastructure for renewable energy projects.
The newly commissioned vessel will strengthen the company’s capabilities in the installation of submarine cables . Its arrival represents a strategic advance in Prysmian’s expansion and a further step towards sustainable electrification at a global level.
