The bulk carrier Yodohime has successfully completed its maiden voyage following the installation of a Norsepower Rotor Sail, a wind propulsion technology that optimizes fuel consumption and reduces CO₂ emissions. This initiative was driven by IINO Kaiun Kaisha ( IINO LINES ) and Electric Power Development ( J-POWER ) with the aim of improving sustainability in maritime transport.

Norsepower ‘s Rotor Sail , measuring 24 metres high and 4 metres in diameter, uses the Magnus effect to generate additional thrust for the vessel. This system is controlled by artificial intelligence, and manages to adjust its rotation based on wind speed and direction in real time, optimising the vessel’s energy efficiency.
