Google has announced strategic partnerships with Varaha and Charm to promote carbon removal through biochar. These agreements will allow the company to purchase 100,000 tons of this biodegradable material from each company by 2030, making them the largest environmental contracts to date.
Biochar as an environmental measure by Google
Biochar is a material created from biomass that helps improve soil quality while also capturing and storing carbon dioxide permanently. With these partnerships, Google is adding this technology to its growing portfolio of climate solutions, which includes methods such as enhanced rock weathering and direct air capture.
