The EUROJET consortium, responsible for the EJ200 engines installed on the Eurofighter Typhoon, has signed an important contract with the NATO Eurofighter & Tornado Management Agency (NETMA) to supply 59 new EJ200 engines to the Spanish Air Force.
EUROJET demonstrates performance and reliability
The EJ200 engine has proven over the years to be a key part of the Eurofighter fleet, with more than 1.5 million flight hours accumulated. This engine, the result of the collaboration between Rolls-Royce, MTU Aero Engines, ITP Aero and Avio Aero, stands out for its exceptional performance and versatility in combat missions. The 59 engines will be assembled at the ITP Aero plant in Ajalvir, Madrid, and will be delivered from 2029.

This contract not only strengthens the Spanish Air Force fleet, but also underlines the continued collaboration between European governments and industry to maintain its technological edge in defence. Ralf Breiling, CEO of EUROJET, stressed that “the confidence of Spain and leading nations in the EJ200 engine is a testament to the robustness and reliability of our Eurofighter platform, which remains a combat-proven asset.”
The EJ200 is not only known for its high availability and low life-cycle costs, but also for its multi-role capability , making it a key piece in ensuring the air security of allied countries and in strengthening NATO ’s deterrence capabilities. The signing of this contract further solidifies the relationship of trust between members of the European aerospace industry and national governments, ensuring a stronger and more resilient defence for the future.
