Solaris has delivered the first electric bus with an innovative battery passport to the city of Berlin. The Urbino 18 model joins the BVG Berlin fleet, integrating the new European regulations that will require this digital document for all batteries in electric vehicles from 2027.

The Solaris Urbino 18 is the first production bus in the world to incorporate a battery passport, a digital record that will provide details and specifications on the composition of the battery, its manufacturing origin and the materials used.

Equipped with 700 kWh Solaris High Energy batteries , the Urbino 18 is part of a larger order of 50 articulated electric buses placed by BVG Berlin. Delivery of these vehicles began in late 2023, and all are expected to be operational by 2025, each with its respective battery passport.
Compliance with new European regulations
The introduction of the battery passport complies with the upcoming European Parliament regulation, Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, which will come into force in 2027. From that date, all electric vehicles will be required to have this digital record to improve transparency in the supply of materials such as lithium, cobalt and nickel, promoting ethical and responsible sourcing.
With more than 5,000 zero-emission vehicles delivered since 2012, the company continues to lead the way towards a cleaner future, with innovative solutions that also include hydrogen vehicles and trolleybuses.
