McDermott has successfully completed the decommissioning of the Campbell platform and associated offshore infrastructure in central Varanus Island, Western Australia. The project, awarded in January 2024 by Santos, included engineering, procurement and the removal of the topsides of the platform, as well as the transportation of the elements to the mainland for disposal.
Decommissioning of offshore platforms
The company carried out a safe decommissioning operation using a jack-up platform, manufactured specifically to address the complexities of the Campbell platform substructure. This platform was designed at McDermott’s Batam facility and was supported by engineering teams from Perth, Chennai and Kuala Lumpur.
