SAFFiRE Renewables, a wholly owned subsidiary of Southwest Airlines, has begun planning and construction of a pilot biofuels plant in Liberal, Kansas. With the goal of leveraging a controlled supply cycle at the aviation company.
SAFFiRE Renewables biofuels pilot plant
This new facility will be dedicated to the“conversion of corn stover” into cellulosic ethanol.cellulosic ethanol. Once obtained, it will be transformed into sustainable aviation fuel(SAF). The project is located at the Arkalon Energy ethanol plant in Conestoga, and reaffirms a breakthrough in the commercialization of advanced biofuels and the reduction of the carbon footprint in the aviation sector.
[post_relacionado]The pilot plant is a collaboration between SAFFiRE Renewables and several entities, including the U.S. Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory and the Idaho National Laboratory. This facility aims to produce FFS, and create high-paying job opportunities, to strengthen the local economy, with a projected 500 new jobs and $92 million in total economic activity.
The CEO of SAFFiRE Renewables highlighted that this pilot plant is a solid step towards the creation of a scalable biofuels industry in the United States. With the support of innovative technologies, such as the conversion of agricultural residues into clean fuels, the facility will contribute to the development of a more sustainable and environmentally friendly aviation industry.
